Double-Click on any of the documents below, and Word will open it for you.  In the case of the Walks Grading, you will probably just want to print it out, and that will be enough.  The slips, though, are a little more complicated, and you should do the following:

  1. Once the slip opens, and before you start filling it in, save it to your computer with whatever name suits you - probably something like "B Walk 15 Nov" would be best.  To save the slip, click on "File" at top-left of the Word window, click "Save As...", and a window will open that will let you navigate to wherever you wish to save the file (probably "My Documents").  Put a suitable name in the area labelled "File name:", click the "Save" button, and you're done.
  2. You can now fill in each part of the form with suitable information.  To do so, left-click in each field to the right of the field's name (eg "Start Time") and you will will see a black rectangle that you can type into.  Instead of clicking, you can also move from one field to the next by pressing the TAB button on your keyboard.
  3. A few fields - "Day", "Grade" and "Meet Leader at" won't give you an area to type into.  Instead, you'll see a list of the only possible options for that field; click on the right one for the walk.
  4. Some fields, such as the date and time, force you to enter data in a sensible format.  For instance, a time must be in numbers and not words.  If you make an error, you'll see a warning message and you can try again.
  5. Every field gives you some guidance as to what should be typed into it.  If you look at the bottom-left of the Word window when the field is selected, you'll see a relevant message.  For example, for the walk distance you'll see "The distance of the walk, in miles and decimal miles"
  6. When you've completed the form, make sure you save it.  If you can only part-complete it, save it as far as you have gone and then you can re-open it to complete it when you have the rest of the information.
  7. When you've finished, you can either print a hard copy of the slip and send that you your Walks Collector, or just send them a copy of the completed slip as an attachment to an e-mail.  To send an attachment via Outlook Express, prepare an e-mail to the collector in the normal way.  Then click on the "Insert|File attachment..." menu, or click the paper-clip icon at the top of the e-mail window.  A window will open that will let you navigate to wherever you saved the file (probably "My Documents") - find the file, click once on its name, and then click on the "Attach" button.  The job's done and you can send the e-mail in the usual way.
