Annual General Meeting The Minutes of the 2008 AGM, held on 13th Oct 2008, are available here. Club Rules The Harrogate Rambling Club Rules are available here. Club Handbook The Harrogate Rambling Club Walkers' Handbook is available here. The rest of this page contains general information about our walks and the way in which we run them. In particular, it covers the following points:
Walks GradingFollowing members' feedback on the major revision of the walks grading system in Aug 2006, the walks grades have been further revised and simplified. From 1 April 2007, the walks grading system will offer four standard grades, called simply A to D, that will normally be provided every Wednesday and Sunday. In addition, there will be a less frequent - approximately fortnightly - E walk. The revised structure has eliminated the height and pace descriptors of the Aug 06 system, which were found to be somewhat confusing and superfluous. The new structure is outlined below and will be applied consistently across Wednesday and Sunday walks:
Any Walk Leader may submit a walk (including a pub lunch if desired) for any of the above grades for any normal walking day. Meeting PointsAll walks have the same meeting point in Park Road, Harrogate o/s SE 302 545 (Behind Trinity Church, running parallel to the main Otley Road) Note that we don't run all grades of walks each time - for details, see the walks programme. Cars leave promptly from the above meeting places at the times stated in walks programme (car drivers are requested to go to the meeting points in Harrogate whenever possible, as not all members have transport, and to minimise the number of cars parked at the start of walks) It is important that you inform the Leader if you are going directly to the start as: (a) there may be restricted parking (b) the start point may have changed (c) the Leader is at liberty to cancel the walk if there is no-one at the Harrogate meeting point and no-one has phoned. Start TimesThe standard start times for the revised walks grades are:
In the Walks Listings, any non-standard start times appear in bold. Please note that the start time given in the Programme is the time at which cars leave Trinity. If you are going straight to the start you should make allowance for the journey time of those coming from Trinity. Meet Leader at...Walk Leaders specify in the Programme whether they are going to Trinity first or straight to the start of the walk. If they specify Trinity but no one else arrives, they are entitled to cancel the walk. So, if the Programme states ‘Meet Leader at Trinity’ but you decide to go straight to the start, it is in your interest to let the Leader know beforehand—otherwise the walk might have been cancelled or the starting point changed without your knowing it. Conversely, if the Programme states ‘Meet Leader at start’ but you decide to go to Trinity first, it also makes sense for you to let the Leader know this, so that he or she knows that you will be coming (and therefore waits for you!). CarsTry to Share: Please try to take your car initially to Trinity Church to ensure everyone has a lift. Finding spare seats is becoming increasingly difficult, particularly for C & C+ walks. Also, more cars left in Harrogate means fewer parked in our beautiful countryside and villages. Mileage Charges: Passengers pay 10p per mile (minimum of £1.00). Note - members accepting lifts do so at their own risk. Also, be aware that the driver's car insurance does not cover passengers’ property.Guidelines for Pub Stops/LunchesThe leader will be at liberty to continue the walk after 20 minutes when "Pub stop" is detailed in the programme. "Pub lunches" take longer and the walk will continue when everyone is ready or at the leader’s discretion. DogsDogs are not allowed on club walks. Accident ReportingShould you be so unfortunate as to be involved in an accident whilst you are on Club outing, please report it to the General Secretary, using the form available either from her or downloadable directly from here. Instructions for completing the form are on the document itself, but please note that it is essential that you complete all sections, including the age and occupation of the injured person. You will need the Adobe Reader program to open the downloaded documents - in the unlikely event that you don't already have a copy on your computer, a free copy is available here: Note, though, that the Reader program is a very large download; if you only have a dial-up connection to the Internet, it would probably be better to get a hard copy of the form directly from the Secretary. However you obtain the form, once it is completed it should be returned to the General Secretary. Footpath ObstructionsIf you encounter an obstructed footpath, please report it using the NYCC forms available either from the General Secretary or downloadable directly from here; these are the instructions for completing the form. As for the accident form, you will need the Adobe Reader program to open the downloaded documents - please see the more detailed instructions in the previous section. However you obtain the form, once it is completed it should be returned to the General Secretary - please do not send it directly to NYCC. Walking EtiquetteWe hope every Member will enjoy all aspects of Club life. However, we hope also that each Member will do his or her utmost to:
Mobile PhonesWhilst this is of course entirely voluntary, the Committee would be very grateful if Walks Leaders (where applicable) would bring their mobiles with them, switching on when leaving home and keeping on until at least the beginning of their walk. This will allow people joining the walk to contact the leader with any last-minute problems, queries, etc. Personal Accident InsuranceOnly paid-up and temporary members are covered by the Club's third party insurance. However, participation in all Club activities is at your own risk, with no liability attaching to the Club, its Officers or its Leaders. In particular, please note that the Club does not provide personal accident cover for its members, who should therefore make their own arrangements taking account of their approach to insurance and their personal circumstances. Several companies offer policies for approximately £5 per month for reasonably comprehensive cover. Club SubscriptionsDetails of the Club subscriptions are given here. Any membership not renewed by the 31st January each year will lapse automatically, and the £3 joining fee will be applied to any members wishing to rejoin after allowing their membership to lapse. Walk LeadersThe programme depends on voluntary leaders. If you have not led a walk before, ask an experienced leader to help you plan a walk. After selecting a date with the relevant walks collector you will be given a form on which to record walk details. Walk CollectorsThe following have volunteered as collectors for the types of walk listed:
If leaders are unable to lead an agreed walk they are responsible for finding a replacement leader. Problems contacting a Walks Collector (allowing for holidays) - contact the Programme Secretary. Walk Collectors - on-line walks slips are here. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
