A presentation of £1000 was made to the Yorkshire Dales Society
on 29th November 2008, and the Society has recently written to update
us on how they are spending our donation.
Initially, a small sum was used to provide refreshments for poorer
families after trips on the Society’s ‘Experience Buses’ from Bradford to
the Yorkshire Dales. These were a great success but only left most of the
contribution available for other purposes.
The Society intends to use the remainder as "match funding" to help
support a series of pilot events to support and encourage young people of
diverse ethnic origins to enjoy UK National Parks.. These events will be
aimed at getting young people and families out into the countryside from the
cities and will include activities such as a family-oriented "Wildflowers in
the Meadows" walk into Ribblesdale and a Music Day (traditional Dales & some
Asian) in Upper Wharfedale.
Our money will help with transport and catering costs for these events. The
Society is very grateful for our donation and has printed an article about
our Club in the Spring Issue of their Review.
